It’s a huge disappointment that only 3 runners take to the field for this seasons renewal, but in hindsight we must also feel privelaged that we are able to witness wonder mare, ‘Enable’ during these unprecedented times. For me it isn’t a betting race, but one thats best watched and observed and hopefully we will get to see the best of one of the best flat horses of the decade. The withdrawal of Anthony Van Dyck should confirm that Enable will win the race but Aiden O’Brien is a wonderful tactician and he will try to set the race up with his 2 runners. Sovereign is likely to go off infront and will attempt to make all as stable mate Serpentine did for connections in the derby. Frankie Dettori has been around the block long enough though and I can’t see him being out foxed today and it’s recent run behind the progressive Ghaiyyath should have blown away any cobwebs. Japan looks the most likely to chase her home again, but I see no reason why it should reverse form with there previous run in the Eclipse.

Isle Of May is likely to be a warm order for the Gosden yars after an eyecatching debut run behind She’s So Nice and with Frankie taking over the reigns, she is a worthy favourite. She is the only horse in the field with experience and that could be valuable, but I’m prepared to take her on with a well bred newcomer from the Hannon yard. There isn’t much better bloodline than having Frankel as your sire and SNOW LANTERN also has a 1000 Guineas winner in Sky Lantern in her breeding. Hannnon won the race last year with Cloak Of Spirits and I’m hoping this well bred filly can do the same. It looks the pick of his 2 runners with Pat Dobbs taking the ride. There are a few other well bred horses in the field from some top stables so I’d keep stakes to a minimum.

1315 Ascot- SNOW LANTERN – 1 Point Win @ 6/1 (Bet Victor)

20 runners take to the field for an ultra competive handicap at 1425 and I like the looks of Cliffs Of Capri in this. Jamie Osbourne won the race last year with Raising Sand and I’m hoping he will be in the winners enclosure again today with the selection. He has done most of his racing in Meydan over the winter befor returning with 2 placed runs at Newmarket and Royal Ascot and has only been raised 1lb for this race.  He looks potentially well handicapped and should put in another bold display. Mutamaasik finished just ahead of our selection at Royal Ascot and coul go well again if ignoring his last run. It’s worth taking the 6 places on offer with William Hill for this race.

1425 Ascot- CLIFFS OF CAPRI- 1 Point EW @ 14/1 (Bet 365 4 places, 12/1 William Hill 6 places)

The 1500 looks a good race on paper with some decent 3 year olds on show, particularly from the Gosden and Haggas yards, but I liked the Roger Charlton trained EVENING SUN’s run last time out and I’m prepared to give it another go. It beat Lincoln Bright by 3 1/2 lengths at Newmarket in June over 7 furlongs and this longer trip shouldn’t be an issue. Lincoln Bright went on to run in the listed King Charles stakes last week at York and ran a cracker behind Surf Dancer and Boccaccio. That form looks pretty solid and I’m hoping Ryan Moore can ride another winner on our selection.

1500 Ascot- EVENING SUN- 1 Point Win @ 9/2 (Most firms)

SCARAMANGA is an interesting runner for Paul Nicholls in the last at Ascot and Frankie Dettori is an eyecatching jockey booking. It looked an awkward ride for Megan Nicholls last time out when finishing 3rd behind Holy Kingdom and Volcanic Sky at Newmarket. Volcanic Sky has won again since so the form looks solid enough. Dettori is sure to get the best out of him and I fancy it to win today.
1720 Ascot- SCARAMANGA- 2 Points Win @ 7/2 (Bet 365)
Johnny Murtagh is a man on a mission at the moment and his horses are in fine fettle. He has 3 runners at Gowran Park today and they are all worth a second look. BELA BOOM was very green on debut but should come on for that run. That race was won by Dickiedooda who has gone on to run well at Royal Ascot and won a listed race at Cork last time out. It would have to improve drastically to win this, but I wouldn’t put it past him. The one I really like is KOSMAN who is turned out quickly after just failing at Naas on Wednesday. Blinkers are fitted for the first time and the horse still looks well treated off of this mark, providing it has come out of that last race well. I think it takes all the beating today in what looks like an easier race. The last one is Laggata in the 1540 who looks to have an obvious chance also. It has looked progressive in its last 2 races and the filly is going in the right direction and will be winning races soon. Today could be the day.
1355 Down Royal- KOSMAN 2.5 Points Win @ 6/4
1540 Down Royal- LAGGATA 1 Point Win @ 3/1
1320 Down Royal- BELA BOOM 0.5 Points EW @ 12/1
